UNDER CONSTRUCTION, CHAPTER 25

Life moved along and Charlie and Adam made a couple more trips to Texas, but the house there was coming right along and the local company was doing a great job. Back home, Charlie kept her company and foremen on the move with various projects. Between that and acquiescing to her mamma’s wedding demands, she didn’t have much time to visit job sites and swing a hammer with any of her crews. When she complained to her mamma, she was told, “Well, you shouldn’t be doing any of that right now anyway. You want your skin to glow come June and your hands to be lovely with a beautiful manicure to display your wedding rings.”

Charlie seriously wished she was Adam instead of herself. He had it easy, inviting his brother, brother-in-law, editor and publisher to be his groomsmen, arrange for the gifts for them, the tuxes for them and the honeymoon. On the other hand, Charlie had to think of four more women to ask as bridesmaids. One choice was easy and that was Stephanie from the office. She and Sandi discussed her choices at length and finally settled on three women they’d hung with in high school. They all got together maybe once a year or so aside from running into each other around town. When asked, each one said she’d be delighted.

Aside from that, Charlie had to address all the wedding invitations, decide on flowers with her mamma, choose gifts for her ladies, make arrangements for hair and nails for all of her party the day of the wedding and anything else her mamma thought was necessary and proper. At least she’d been able to winnow down the invitation list, so between the two families, there would only be 250 people in attendance.

When March arrived, Charlie realized she was going to have to go spend some time in Texas. Adam was deep into his next book and wasn’t able to pull himself away. He had too much compiled research on hand to pack up and haul there. Charlie figured she’d have to be gone a couple of weeks, but those weeks turned into the entire month.

They missed each other terribly even though they talked every single evening. Sometimes their conversations turned personal and sexual, with each of them satisfying themselves and missing the skin-to-skin experience in the process. Charlie vowed once she got back home, they were going to spend an entire weekend or maybe a week just eating and having sex.

During the day Charlie was too busy overseeing the final components that would make Jessie’s home into the vision Jessie, Terrance and Charlie had imagined in the beginning. The house was situated with the entrance facing north and appeared to grow up right out of the valley floor thanks to the design and plantings. From there it curved around both sides until it met the south side. Facing south would be a huge room that could be opened using folding glass doors to the fenced swimming pool and cabana which was built to match the house. Naturalistic plantings would make this area more in tune with the surrounding environment of the small valley.

Opposite the folding doors was the kitchen with a huge island. The kitchen windows faced the interior courtyard which would provide Jessie’s small children a safe place to play. On either side of that courtyard were bedrooms, offices for Jessie and her husband, bathrooms, and some spare rooms that Jessie hadn’t yet decided how to use.

Once the roof plantings were in place, the house would truly look as though it had just popped up out of the ground. Charlie loved the fact Jessie’s family home was so environmentally friendly and that Jessie had made the decision to retain the rest of the small valley in its natural state. She could just imagine Jessie’s family making pathways throughout, playing in the little stream, building dams, climbing trees. It was going to be a wonderful home and the best construction project for which Charlie and her team had been chosen

With the beginning of April, Charlie figured she was pretty much done. Perhaps one more trip to make sure the plantings were doing well, and take care of any punch list work and she’d be done. Of course, she and Adam would come back together when Jessie held her open house, but that wouldn’t be until sometime in May. Charlie couldn’t wait to get home, to see Adam. She’d missed him way more than she’d ever thought she could. She’d especially missed the together sex because phone sex just wasn’t the same at all.

When Charlie walked into the terminal, there was Adam waiting for her with a huge bunch of flowers that were almost crushed when she threw herself into his arms for a huge long kiss and a very hard solid hug. The way Charlie felt when they separated, she could very well have thrown him on the airport floor, yanked his pants down and impaled herself on the huge cock he’d pressed against her. As far as she was concerned, they couldn’t get home fast enough.

In Adam’s truck, there was more kissing, hugging and fondling until Charlie finally told Adam to find a dark corner in the garage. There had to be one because she was desperate. Unfortunately, once Adam got the truck started, he drove out of the garage, barely stopping to pay the parking fee and onto the highway. He’d barely left the payment booth when Charlie had his pants unbuttoned and unzipped and his cock out in the open in her hand. Then she unfastened her seatbelt and leaned over to take him into her mouth saying, “Oh but I have so missed this. I have so missed you.”

Adam was positive they were going to end up in a wreck, so he took the very next exit while trying to keep Charlie’s mouth away from his cock. Once off the freeway, he quickly found a street that didn’t have much in the way of lights, and pulled into the darkest area there. Once Charlie realized what he was doing, she’d undone her own pants and was bare-assed naked by the time Adam turned off the truck.

“Push your seat back Adam, and hurry!” Charlie demanded as she clambered up to kneel on the seat and he’d no more moved the seat as back as far as it would go before she’d thrown her leg over his lap and seated his dick firmly into place.
“Oh my God,” she breathed as she leaned back to look into Adam’s face. “I have so missed the feel of you inside me. I’m sorry but I just couldn’t wait until we got back home.”

“Well, Charlie, honey, I hope this urgency isn’t going to come back and bite you in the ass.” Adam responded, lifting her up and setting her back down.

“Oh baby, there’s no way this could possibly bite me in the ass. It feels so very good.” And she raised and slowly lowered herself again.

“In your rush, you didn’t happen to notice I’m not wearing a condom, but that must mean you started birth control pills.” This time when he raised Charlie up and brought her back down, he ground himself against her clit.

For just a moment, Charlie hesitated, but this felt so good, felt so right. She couldn’t possibly get pregnant from this one quick and very needy fuck. “It doesn’t matter Adam. This feels so great I couldn’t possibly stop now. So, we’ll have no birth control this one time. We’ll be fine. I just know it.”

For the next few minutes, there was only the sound of skin against skin, panting, heavy breathing and finally, the quiet squeal Charlie almost always made as she came and Adam felt himself join her as soon as she made the sound.

Charlie slumped on Adam, the steering wheel at her back and kind of pushing into her butt. Still, she didn’t want to move just yet and she could tell Adam wasn’t in a hurry to push her away. They stayed that way for another five minutes or more and Charlie was positive some time later that was their mistake. They should have pulled themselves apart as quickly as possible so all Adam’s little swimmers could have trickled out into her panties. Nevertheless, she always remembered that time as being so perfect because she hadn’t felt they were individuals, but one connected person together again after such a long separation.

When they did separate, they laughed and giggled about their instantaneous need for each other and wondered what coming together after a year’s separation would be like. “You probably wouldn’t have made it out of the airport.” Adam joked.

“Yeah, well don’t think I didn’t consider just throwing you on the floor when I felt all your hardness against my tummy because I did.”

“Well, let’s mosey on home now. Your place or mine. Actually, it will have to be your place for a while because they’ve begun remodeling mine.”

“That’s great. It will feel good to be in m y own bed, especially with you in it with me. How soon’s your place going to be finished? I can’t wait to see what they’re doing. I loved Terrance’s drawing and can’t wait to do some of the design work.”

“If everything goes according to plan, it should be finished by the time we get back from our honeymoon.”

“Oooooh, honeymoon. I love the sound of that word. Do tell what you’ve planned.”

“Nope, that’s going to be a surprise and part of my wedding gift, so just don’t even try to worm it out of me. Won’t work. Won’t happen.”

“We’ll just see about that once I get you tied down on a bed.” Charlie responded, putting her head on Adam’s shoulder and her hand on his thigh,

Adam laughed and responded, “Oh my. Did you learn some new tricks in Texas? Here I thought all this time you were alone in your hotel room”

“I was Mr. Smarty-pants and you know that because I was on the phone every night with you. But I did have a bit of time to read a bit of erotic fiction by a mildly famous author. He wrote a great scene where a female spy tried to seduce secrets from a man and had to resort to chains. Do you have any chains, Adam? And, how in the hell do you come up with that stuff anyway.”

Laughing, Adam responded, “It just comes to me sweetie, just comes to me and I write it all down. As for chains, nope, don’t have a single one.”

“That’s okay. I’m sure I can manage to obtain some on my own. Maybe I’ll even be kind and put a little padding so your wrists and ankles don’t chaff.”

Adam had left dinner on the warm so they were able to eat once they’d carted Charlie’s bags into the house. And, since they’d already had a bit of foreplay and were very hungry, they ate before cleaning up the kitchen and heading for the bedroom. There, they made slow lazy love to each other and Adam wore a condom when the time came. It was wonderful to be home and to be together.

Later, verging on the very edge of succumbing to sleep, Charlie felt a little pang in her lady parts and tried to pass it off as a residual quake from her wonderful orgasms that evening. As her eyes closed in sleep though, she thought she could hear a child’s laughter and wondered if it wasn’t mother nature mocking her.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION, CHAPTER 24

Having Adam along was actually a blessing and if every trip to Texas included him, that would be fine with Charlie. He kept her from working 12-hour days and made sure she ate well. In fact, while she was busy with meetings or working with the construction companies being considered, he looked around and made sure they went out to visit some of the local sights. On the two weekends they were there, he made arrangements for them to leave the town they were in and travel to other areas to sightsee and enjoy Texas hospitality and food. If Charlie thought Georgia barbeque couldn’t be topped, it was because she hadn’t been to Texas. She was thinking she was going to have to bring Mr. Eb to Texas so he, or his family members, could learn some new barbeque methods and sauces.

Back home, the company’s projects were moving along nicely and Charlie’s dad hadn’t been called on too often. In fact, she was positive he felt a bit down about the fact she had things running so smoothly she could be gone for a couple of weeks, checking in only by phone or email. Meanwhile, her mamma had been busy looking at venues and checking dates for the nuptials as well as making up a guest list that had to include every single person her mamma and daddy had ever known, and that was without adding the folks Adam’s family would want to invite. Charlie was so tempted to simply break her engagement or elope, she could barely stand it, but Adam kept talking her out of doing anything so foolish.

Adam talked to his parents and they’d decided they would come down mid-February. Once that was settled, Charlie’s mom called them and insisted they plan on staying with Charlie’s family. After all, they had more than enough room and would soon be family. Until they had the big wedding meeting, Charlie refused to do one single thing that was related to her wedding, which annoyed the absolute hell out of her mamma. Charlie got around her mamma’s ire by simply not answering her phone; and on one occasion, snuck out the company’s back door when she learned her mamma had come by to have a chat.

It couldn’t simply be a meeting, it had to include food. Charlie’s mamma invited everyone for an early dinner and went so far as to have it catered by the company she planned to hire for the wedding. The food was delicious and everyone approved Ruth Ann’s choices although Charlie really wanted to call a halt to the idea of a sit-down dinner and have it be a lot simpler. Unfortunately, Patricia and Ruth Ann had hit it off and worked together on the menu, so any changes weren’t likely. Still, before the cake samples were served for dessert, Charlie whispered in Adam’s ear, “Are you sure you don’t want to elope? Please, please, please.”

Adam laughed and gave her a hug, responding, “How can you even think about eloping? Just look at how happy our mammas are. They’d probably give us such a spanking we’d be unable to sit for months. Now, just relax and go with it.”

By evening’s end, a draft plan had been assembled. Charlie dreaded to think how much longer it would take to reach a final plan, but she was willing to keep you mouth shut and participate as required. But she didn’t plan on doing anything beyond what was actually required.

The first thing on the list was to choose a wedding dress and both her mamma and Adam’s mamma would participate before Adam’s parents went back north. That meant Charlie had to carve out a day or two in the next week for that purpose. Besides the two mammas, it would also include Sandi. The women decided Wednesday would be a good day and Ruth Ann said she would call and make an appointment. Then, after the fitting, perhaps they could all go to lunch.

Wednesday morning Charlie wished she had a prescription for Xanax. It wasn’t that she’d ever taken it, but another friend relied on the medication when her life got just a bit too overwhelming. Adam kissed her goodbye and suggested she do her best to hold her tongue. “Remember, it may be your wedding, sweetie-pie, but you’re not in charge.”

Charlie stuck her tongue out at him, climbed in her truck and went to pick up Sandi. They’d meet the mammas at the bridal shop. When Sandi climbed in the truck, Charlie wanted to sneer at her wardrobe, but she had no reason since she’d dressed appropriately herself in a dress and heels. “I don’t know about you Sandi, but I feel like a little kid having to participate in a function I’d rather not.”

“Oh, c’mon Charlie, you know how much your mamma’s enjoyin’ this.  After all, you’re her only child and a girl at that. Just smile and think about great sex with Adam and you’ll be fine.”
“Think about sex with my mamma and his mamma both right there. Is that what you did?”

“Well, not when we were tryin’ on dresses because Les and I hadn’t done the deed yet; but I certainly did fantasize about it when things started to get under my skin. Course, I was all excited to be doin’ what we’re doin’ today, unlike you. You’re such a boy-girl.”

When they arrived at the bridal shop, the owner gave them each a glass of champagne and had already pulled out several dresses for them to view. There was no way Charlie was going to wear the one that seemed to have a hoop skirt. She pointed to it and shook her head no. Another one had enough ruffles for several dresses and Charlie sent that one back as well. She looked at a few others and chose three to try. She even allowed her mamma to come into the dressing room with her.

The first one was fairly plain, but felt uncomfortable once it was on her body. The second one was so tight at the hem Charlie could barely move. She couldn’t really see herself walking down the aisle. In that dress, it would be more like mincing. She wasn’t too enthused about the third dress either. It was fairly plain and simple compared with the others, made of satin with a train made of lace. Charlie’s dislike was for the fact both dress and train glistened with sequins and beads. She did like the sweetheart neckline, with small shoulder straps and the bodice ended just below her breasts. From there, it fell straight down, ending just a few inches short of the floor. The hem became longer as it moved from front to back and the train was shaped like the hemline. It was the one Sandi insisted she try.

Once she was all zipped and buttoned into that gown, she was surprised to hear her mamma sniffle. She whipped her head around and there was her mamma with tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Oh my Charlotte,” her mamma almost whispered, “I really thought maybe I’d never see you in wedding white. This gown is the one I know it. Now, let me dry my tears and we’ll see what everyone else thinks.”

“Mamma, I guess I never really understood how important it was to you to see me married off. I’m sorry I’ve been such a stinker, but I’m glad I waited for Adam.”

“Me too, baby, me too. Now let’s wow Patricia and Sandi.”

And wow them Charlie did. She slowly walked into the room and mounted the small platform and allowed the owner to arrange the sparkling train.

“I knew that was the one the minute I saw it.” Sandi exclaimed, walking around the platform. “With your hair down and a crown of white roses, you’ll look absolutely perfect. Don’t y’all agree?”

Patricia added, “You’ll be absolutely beautiful on your wedding day, my dear. I wasn’t sure about the glitter, but it suits you perfectly.”

Patricia and Ruth Ann hugged each other happily before Charlie returned to the dressing room. While the two women celebrated and shed a few more tears, Sandi helped Charlie remove her wedding gown. Then, it was Sandi’s turn to try on various bridesmaid dresses.

Susannah, the bridal shop owner had assembled an assortment of bridesmaid dresses and said, “Since the wedding gown has sequins and beads, I thought perhaps simple dresses would be more complimentary. And, since the wedding gown shines with different colors, perhaps an assortment of dresses that reflect that shining would be gorgeous.”

Sandi came out of the dressing room in a sky-blue dress that had silver threads woven throughout the material. Its shape was similar to that of the wedding gown but the hemline ended just above the knee and followed the oval shape to the back. She looked stunning with her lightly tanned skin, dark hair and eyes. “That’s perfect for you Sandi,” Ruth Ann exclaimed. “And I see exactly what you mean by having the dresses be complimentary. The silver gleams nicely, but won’t detract from my baby’s dress.”

Charlie had lost her battle to keep the wedding party small, so there would have to be an additional four dresses for the four women Charlie had yet to invite to be part of her wedding. Ruth Ann looked at and selected the same style dress but in a pale mint green, the material again shot through with silver. “This will complement both the matron’s and bride’s dresses and Charlie, you need to get your other four attendants in here for a fitting right away, isn’t that right Susannah?”

“Oh, my yes. The sooner we have everything ordered and fitted the better, especially if you want your June wedding.” Susannah gushed back. “And don’t forget you’re going to need veils for everyone as well as shoes.”

“Don’t worry Ms. Marshall, I’m positive my mamma won’t let a single thing slip by or slide very far down the schedule.” Charlie replied, barely keeping her comment from being completely sarcastic. Crap, she thought. Now I have to figure out which four women are going to be wearing those dresses. She wanted bang her head on the adjacent table.

Sandi, sensing Charlie’s discomfort filled her glass with the last of the champagne and told her, “Drink up sweetie. I know this will help ease your pain just a wee bit.”

Charlie drank it down in practically one gulp and followed everyone out the door. She still had to get through lunch an more wedding talk. Maybe she’d just drink her lunch and let everyone else do the talking.

Amazingly, once they’d settled in and ordered their drinks and lunch, talk did not revolve around wedding plans. Patricia asked Sandi about her family and her kids and this led to stories not only about Sandi’s kids, but Ruth Ann and Patricia telling stories about Adam and his siblings and Charlie. It was a great lunch with lots of laughter and sharing and definitely put Charlie in a better frame of mind until Patricia’s final comment about children.

“Just think Charlie, in another year or two, you’ll be able to share stories about your own children. Imagine just how much fun that will be.”

Beneath the table, Sandi pinched Charlie’s leg to keep the words she was formulating from leaving her mouth. She knew Charlie wanted to wait for several more years before getting pregnant. She also knew both the mammas would undoubtedly be praying and hoping for a grandchild exactly nine months from the wedding day, if not sooner.

That evening at dinner, Charlie regaled Adam with tales from her day with the mammas and even told him how Sandi had pinched her. “She didn’t want me to ruin lunch by exclaiming how I didn’t plan on having any kids for years yet. I know my mamma’s anxious to be a granny, but your mamma already has six. Why the hurry? I am so not ready to become a mamma myself.”

Adam looked at Charlie, his face serious. “Would it be that horrible to get pregnant right away? I know I’m ready to be a dad and would love to have a houseful of children before I’m too old to get down on the floor and play with them. Or too feeble to scare the shit out of any boy that comes sniffing around my girls.”

Charlie pushed back from the table and looked at him, her eyebrows raised, eyes wide open. “Seriously? Seriously? You want to get pregnant right away? You’re barely 35 and I’m just past 30. We’ve lots of time. And, a houseful of kids. Sheesh, I guess we haven’t talked much about our future and children, but I’m not sure I’m capable of being a mamma to more than one, maybe two.”

“Oh, Charlie, you’d be great. I just know it. Look how great you are at 4everything else. Look at how flawlessly your company runs.”

“Yeah, but I don’t want to give up working at my company. Just now, we’re expanding to another state. Just imagine what I could do once that Texas house is finished and marketed. Maybe the company could grow and become something huge.”

“I have confidence in you Charlie. I bet you could be a great mamma and end up on the Fortune 500 list if that’s what you wanted. And, you know you can count on me always for all the support you’d need, not to mention all the fun we’d have making them babies.”

“Aha, here we are back to sex. I’m more than happy to have all the sex you want, but we’re going to keep on being careful, so don’t go poking holes in your condoms or switching out my birth control pills.”

“Thanks for the ideas Charlie. Where do you keep your pins around here? And, I didn’t know you were on the pill.”

“Well, I’m not, but I think I’m going to go see my doctor and get some so you don’t get carried away. My wedding dress doesn’t have room for a baby bump.”

Laughing, they got up, cleaned the kitchen and headed for the bedroom. After a long sweet kiss, Charlie murmured, “Looks like we’re gonna be practicing some baby-making. Just make sure you have a condom handy.”

WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO BESIDES NOT WRITING

I’ve been feeling just a tad morose for a bit and decided I needed to look at my accomplishments rather than what’s on the “need to do” or “will never get to do” lists. I also know if I sat down and wrote more fiction, i.e., completed Under Construction and began work on the next book which is percolating in the back of my brain, I’d feel a whole bunch better. But I’ll get to that and, hopefully, soon.

Meanwhile, I’m not sure if I reported that I had my final series of tests and CT scan and everything came back perfectly normal. That doesn’t mean I’m feeling perfectly normal because somehow my body just doesn’t want to return to the normal, I knew last November. I don’t remember waking up each and every single day feeling as though someone came through during the night and beat me with a big stick. I mean almost everything hurts when I first get up and get moving. I don’t remember that as being my normal.

Still, I persevere and do my physical therapy and exercises every single day of the week but one…I do allow myself a day off. In addition, the Enhanced Fitness classes at the senior center started up again the beginning of May, so I go and try to enhance myself Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The other three days, i.e., Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday I try to walk as I used to do Monday through Friday, but haven’t been too successful at that lately. I think I’m going to switch my walk to the evening since it’s light late. I’m sure Karma and/or Kaizer would appreciate a little sojourn through the neighborhood. Easy to plan, but follow-through is ever so much harder.

There are two new skylights in my bathroom. They came with a remote, actually two remotes, one for each skylight but they are programmed to operate both simultaneously. I have a spare in case I mislay one of them. All I have to do is press a button and they begin opening. Another button allows me to stop the opening when it’s small or allow for it to become much larger. And, they also close when it begins to rain if I’m not around to close them, and I discovered that actually does happen. Because the bathroom always became so hot on the really hot days, now that I can allow that hot air to move up and out, I may not need to drag my air conditioner out of the closet when the warm weather arrives. That would be swell.

I also have had the glass in two bedroom windows replaced because the seal had broken. The installers were supposed to do the living room window glass too, but the frame has been compromised so I’ll need a new frame as well. That now probably won’t happen now for another six weeks or so.

Two new hallway rugs were purchased and laid down. I’ve also purchased enough indoor-outdoor carpet to redo the entryway to the house and a seating area under cover on the deck. I thought I’d get it done this weekend, but not it looks as though it may rain.

Maryanne and Greg made two trips over to load up all the bricks on the side of the house. Greg has big plans for them and I’ve seen the beginning of his project. He does extremely nice work. Since the bricks are now gone and the side of the house is empty, I’m going to have Haley and her friend Alex (with AJ supervising) remove the lean-to that has existed between the house and fence for the last 50+ years. They plan to do that later this month and my neighbor to the north will be happy about that. At some point when I find a dependable and not too spendy handyman, I’ll have a gate built that will, hopefully, hide the garbage, yard waste and recycle cans.

I haven’t yet begun to change what was the marital bedroom aside from eliminating all the stamp stuff. A fellow Lion’s Club member who is a stamp aficionado came out and put together the two airmail and one duck stamp notebooks for the boys. Then, he paid me for the face value of all the other stamps John acquired over the years and hauled them away. I know the funds I received in no way amounted to what John spent over 50 years in acquiring so many stamps, but that project is finished. Plus, I have enough postage to last me the remainder of my life, especially since I don’t send out much mail these days.

There’s still stuff in that bedroom, but I plan to go through it, take photos and put it up for sale on FB Marketplace, Craig’s List or E-Bay in the near future. Once that room is empty, then I’m going to paint the entire thing, purchase myself a double bed with all new linens and pillows, decorate it so it pleases me and move me, myself and I in there.

I’ve also been spending time in the garden. I planted five pots of tomatoes, one each of pumpkin, delicata and zucchini squash, beans and peas. I just this week planted a second round of peas and beans, so I should have them to eat for more than a couple of weeks. I’ve already harvested enough spinach and lettuce for three salads and it will soon be time to harvest again. I cannot wait for the tomatoes to begin putting forth fruit and ripening. I have serious hopes that my crop this year will be far better than that of last year.

As far as flowers go, all my dahlias came up way too soon, so my plan to dig, separate and replant this spring didn’t happen. But I have managed to get out there and snip out the center of the majority of the stalks so there will be more dahlias per stalk. I also took my three pots of hanging fuchsias apart and replanted them into five pots. They’re doing nicely and hopefully will begin blooming by July. Unfortunately, my lilies are already beginning to bloom. It’s just the red ones, so I hope the others will wait a few more weeks to explode.

Haley and I loaded the aluminum boat on to her truck and she hauled it out to Thor. The following week, she cleaned up the chicken yard, chicken house and we moved the wire fence back on to my property so the behind neighbor is happy once again. I also finally sold the brand-new boat seats John had in storage. They didn’t go for the original price, but for two-thirds less, but I’m still happy they’re off to be installed on someone else’s boat. More garage space.

My social life has also improved since almost everyone I know has been vaccinated. It’s so pleasurable to be able to hug and be hugged back. So far, I’ve had lunch out maybe five times. There’s still social distancing and if possible, we’ve elected to eat outside if seating it is available. I’ve also gone and picked up my granddaughter Arayli and taken her for sushi. Sprouts Market in Lynnwood has $5 sushi on Wednesday. I couldn’t believe Arayli ate two entire trays, but she does love the stuff as long as it doesn’t have any fish in it. Me, I like the fish. This coming Friday, I’m going to pick up Xander and we’re going for pizza and then to a park or the beach. It’s extremely nice and fun to be able to have them back in my life on a regular basis. I’m looking forward to more summer joy with the both of them.

I’ve also decided I need to push back my “gin time” to later in the evening. I can get so much more done outside in the late afternoon rather than having a drink, deciding I’m a bit too tired to continue and move to the couch and the book I’m reading or television.

I have additional plans for later in the year once I find that handyman I mentioned above. The cover on the deck must be replaced and this time with opaque roofing to keep the sun out. None of my plans at this point in time include travelling either near or far. I was so excited last year to take that cruise and had made tentative plans for additional travel, however, the pandemic pretty much took care of those plans.

I don’t know what it was about the pandemic, but I’m not as excited to get in my car or on a plane and go someplace else. I don’t know if being so ill in December has made me extremely age-aware, but I no longer feel like the woman I was before, capable of going and doing absolutely anything I chose. Maybe my little pandemic rut has become so comfortable I can’t imagine anything else. I do go on line and look at various destinations, but then it all seems as though it would take so much effort to make it happen. Perhaps as the weeks or months pass and the reality of actual normal returns I’ll begin to feel differently.

In another nine days, John’s 79th birthday will arrive. I wish he were here so I could have a huge family gathering with his favorite foods and cake or pie. I’ll miss doing that and sitting around listening to the entire family talk about past events, jokes, and fun as well as sharing lots of laughter. I find I do miss him A LOT.  I have almost 55 years of memories of our life together and the majority of them bring a smile to my face. Somehow, over the last year, the anger and disappointment I held for both of us has dissipated and I am seriously thankful for that. I prefer remembering the laughter, closeness, and how we shared so much good during those years.

A neighbor woman told me years ago that no matter how much her deceased husband had driven her crazy the last 20 years he was alive, she’d give just about anything to have him sitting across from her at the breakfast table. I didn’t “get it” at the time, but I certainly get it now. Her husband’s been gone for way more than 20 years now, so I’m going to have to tell her first that I now understand as well as ask if she’d still love to have him back with her for breakfast.

So, I think that more or less brings you up-to-date with regard to my life. Today, while I so didn't want to, I forced myself to exercise, go to fitness class, have lunch with a friend and write this. I think all this was a good for me. I no longer feel morose, but pleased with myself and encouraged about what I’ve accomplished and what’s waiting for me to accomplish. And, yes, Under Construction will definitely be back SOON.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION, CHAPTER 23

First thing New Year’s Day morning, Charlie and Adam called both sets of parents to let them know they were officially engaged. Adam’s parents were ready to get on a plane and come down for a visit and to meet Charlie’s family. And, of course, Charlie’s mom wanted to begin planning the event immediately, but they managed to put her off by telling her that Adam’s parents were going to come visit and then they’d all get together to look at calendars and plan. Once they were off the phone, Charlie snuggled up to Adam and laughingly said, “Knowing mom, she’s up in the attic looking at the baby furniture she’s been hoarding forever.”

“Well Charlie, we’re not getting any younger, and we don’t want to be old and feeble when our kids are still young enough to be running around the house. We’d never be able to keep up.”

“I know, but I’d like us to at least be married for a little while before we bring another person into our lives. Plus, there’s no way we could live in my little house because it’s too small and this cabin is even smaller.”

“I’ve thought about that too and have the perfect solution.”

“Oh really, and what would that be.”

“I know neither of us would really want to move away from the lake. We both like it here, so my idea is to either completely tear this cabin down or remodel it, using all the ideas you used on your house except I’d want all the electronic stuff included. I know you left most of that out.”

“Yeah, I did but that was because I really felt my phone would be all the electronics I’d need. I guess you’d need some fast speeds for your computer, plus I guess we’d need to ere on the side of security if we’re going to have children.”

“Maybe we could do some making children practice?”

“After last night, you’re ready to go again?” Charlie laughed and jumped off the couch before Adam could stop her. “Nope, no practice today. I’ve got some places to go, people to see and things to do.”

“How can that be. It’s a holiday.”

“Well, first I have to go see Sandi and show her my new ring. She was gaga over my Christmas present, but wait until she sees this.” Charlie held out her hand and spread her fingers. “She’ll be just like mom, wanting to talk about plans right away, so I’ll probably be there for a bit. I was her maid of honor and she’ll be mine even though she’s no longer a maid.”

“Can’t we just elope?” Adam asked plaintively. “I went through the weddings for my sister and brother and cannot imagine being center stage for one of those huge events.”

“Nope, if we were to elope, my mamma, and maybe my daddy too, would string you up from the nearest tree. As their only child and a girl, there’s no way we’re getting out of a huge event, so you’re just going to have to suck it up and participate as best you can. You can start while I’m gone by thinking of who you want to stand with you and how many. I can only have as many women as you have men.”

“That’s fine then because I’ll just have Matt and that’s all.”

“Sorry Adam, you’re going to have to do better than that. I imagine mamma’s thinking no less than four bridesmaids, so besides Matt, you need four more guys.”

Adam groaned and pulled a pillow over his face, muttering, “Oh my Lord, what have I done? I may live to regret asking you to marry me.”

“Now, honeybunch, don’t be that way,” Charlie responded, pulling the pillow away and giving him a serious kiss. “You know now you have me, you couldn’t possibly live without me.”

Adam tried to turn the kiss into something more, but Charlie straightened up and told him, “You know the reward is always worth the wait. See you in time for dinner.”

Before going to Sandi’s, Charlie went by her parents to show them she really had an engagement ring. It took a bit longer than she planned because her mamma wanted to talk about guest lists. Charlie got away by finally telling her to put one together and she’d look at it later on.

It also took a bit of time at Sandi’s because after she’d admired and oooohed and aaaaahed over the ring, they had to reminisce about the ideas they’d had during all the years of their friendship about the wedding they’d each have some day. Sandi had pretty much stuck with all her original ideas and made them come true. Her wedding was perfect and exactly what she’d dreamed of and wanted. Charlie had always had more than one idea about how she’d get married, so they had to talk about which one was top of the list now. Charlie assured Sandi she would be invited to the big planning meeting when it happened, if for no other reason than to help Charlie keep her mother in check…if that was even possible.

Finally, Charlie was able to go on her way and stopped by the office. She hadn’t been in the last few days and Stephanie had called and told her that Jessie had sent her a large packet of photos and information. She wanted to look at the material and maybe take it home with her. The first phone call when the office opened the next day would be to Jessie. She wanted to make sure she was ready for that because if all was in order, she’d most likely have to go spend some time in Texas. Lord, she thought, a wedding and a huge project out of state. It was going to be some kind of year all right.

Back home, Adam had dinner ready and surprised Charlie with the dish most southerners usually began the year. He’d found a recipe for Hoppin’ John and prepared that as well as collard greens and cornbread. Each item stood for something in the new year. Cornbread represented gold and eating that meant you’d have some spending money. Collard greens were green and stood for luck and money. Without them, you’d run out of luck in no time. Hoppin’ John was made with black-eyed peas, rice and ham. It consisted of all that is good on New Year’s Day and represents a big pot of money.

For someone who’d never cooked these southern dishes before, Adam did a bang-up job. “Don’t be telling mamma this, but your Hoppin’ John is better than hers. I don’t know what you did that she doesn’t, but I like that little bit of spice in there. Gives my tongue a nice tang.”

“My lips are sealed provided you’re a good girl.”

“Adam, don’t you know by now that I’m always always good. That’s how I was raised. And, thank you for making these for us today. The way the year seems to be shaping up with our wedding and the project in Texas, we’re going to need all the money and luck we can get our hands on.”

“Don’t forget about remodeling or rebuilding this place, so we have some place to live.”

“Do we have to work on that now? Can’t we wait until at least the wedding has come and gone?”

“Nope. I’m going to call Terrance tomorrow and get him on the calendar to talk about whether we remove and build new or remodel.”

“But he’s going to have to go to Texas, probably in the next two weeks.”

“What’s one afternoon of his time? I won’t expect him to have the plans done right away. I’ll give him until the end of the month.”

Charlie caught Adam’s grin and threw the dishtowel at him. “You’re just funnin’ me Adam. I can tell. But, if you want to work on getting this project started, you can go right ahead. Whatever you and Terrance decide, he’ll run it by me anyway.”

“So, I don’t get the last word? I mean, it is my cabin.”

“How about we discuss it when the time comes and if I can’t sway you to my way of thinking, then you’ll get the last word.” Charlie responded, going to sit on his lap and blow in his ear.

“Aha, so that’s how you think you’ll manipulate me is it Charlie-girl?” Adam put one arm beneath her legs and stood up. He carted her off to the bedroom and they’d once again enjoyed great sex, Adam left her sleeping to go out and clean up the kitchen. He hated getting up to a mess in the mornings.

The first week of the new year was indeed busy. Charlie talked to Jessie and made plans for her and Terrance to visit Texas the following week. When she announced that at home, Adam went online and made reservations for himself so he could go along. Charlie wasn’t too sure how that would work, but guessed they’d find out first thing and if it wasn’t to Adam’s liking, then he could stay home on subsequent trips. Aside from that, she met with all of her foremen to review each project and make sure things were going smoothly. Charlie also drafted her dad to be on call for any real problems. He absolutely loved that idea and Charlie kinda wondered if she hadn’t made a mistake and would come back to find him knee-deep in the business again.

Based on the information Jessie had sent, Terrance had already prepared some sketches of various ideas about how the house would look when finished. Jessie had been smart enough to get the property surveyed, so he wouldn’t have to wait for that information prior to applying for the various permits. He figured he’d only need to be there for a couple of days to get some measurements and then he’d be ready to go back and draw up preliminary plans.

Charlie would need to stay longer because she was going to have to not only meet with Jessie a number of times to make sure she had all the information she needed with regard to design, landscape and other essentials Jessie would want for herself and her family. The more decisions could be locked in before building began, the smoother the project would move.

The other work Charlie needed to accomplish was to choose a construction company that would actually do the work. For that purpose, she would need a company that had employees who worked with women or who would be willing to work with her as a boss. She also needed a company that wouldn’t change from the course she set when she had to return home. She needed to be able to trust the man in charge. She set about interviewing the heads of the three top construction companies in town.

The good old boy she met with from the first company pretty much had Charlie crossing him off her list before the interview was finished. He acted as though she was an empty-headed girl who’d have no idea what she wanted or even what a two by four was. No way would him or his company work out.

The next two companies sent younger men to the interviews and Charlie felt she’d be able to trust and work with either one based on the information exchanged. But, the choice-factor would rest on Charlie spending a day with one of their construction crews. When she explained her desire to work for one day at a building site of each man’s choice, each one accepted the idea.

Bright and early on a Monday morning, Charlie showed up at a site where a four-story structure was moving toward the half-way point of being finished. She knew the boss and most likely all of the workers were watching as she climbed out of her car. She leaned back in and pulled out her well-born toolbelt and strapped it around her waist. She was dressed in a tank-top, jeans and boots with her hair coming out the back of her baseball cap.

She walked up to the boss and said, “Here I am, ready for work. Where or with who do you want me to start?”

“Morning Charlie. This here’s Hector. He’ll be your work-buddy today and have you doing a variety of chores.”

Charlie extended her hand. “Howdy Hector, it’s nice to meet you. And, as long as you have me doing real work, not just cleaning up, we’ll get along just fine.”

Hector led Charlie off into the building and she spent the next eight hours helping with framing on the top floor, installation of wallboard on the bottom floor and other miscellaneous carpentry work. In the process, she was able to talk to Hector and many of the other workers about the company and their jobs. She was a little shocked to find out quite a number of the workers, including Hector could be called illegals. She didn’t like that and wondered just how much less they were paid in comparison to the resident Americans. Still, everyone appeared to work well together and neither time nor effort was wasted.

Charlie repeated the exercise on Wednesday for the other company. Her greeting and introduction were a bit different. She arrived, as she had on Monday, about 15 minutes early, strapped on her toolbelt and walked over to Hoss, the construction boss. She still had trouble believing that was really his name, but that’s what he’d told her to call him.

“Howdy boss. I’m here, ready to work.”

“I see that, Charlie. First, I’d like to introduce you to the crew you’ll be working with today.” The employees hadn’t yet gone off to their various jobs on what appeared to be the construction of a very large house. They were milling around, coffee cups or water bottles in hand. Hoss went through all the names and Charlie shook hands with e ach one. Not too many said more than “Morning,” except for Nick who she thought might be the foreman. “Mornin’ Mam, looks like that toolbelt of yours has seen some hard work.”

“It’s not the one my daddy gave me when I was 10. I outgrew it once I gained these hips, but he bought me a new one and I’ve used it ever since. I look forward to working with y’all today and please don’t hesitate to speak up if I’m in the process of screwing somethin’ up. I’d appreciate the advice.”

“Okay,” Hoss said, “Let’s get busy. This place ain’t gonna get done if we just keep looking at it.”

Charlie went off with Nick who climbed up the ladder to the roof. “We’re hoping to get this roof done today, then it won’t be quite so hot for those working inside. Hope you’re wearing sunscreen.”

“Of course, and I have more in my lunchbox if needed. Now, what do you want me to do.”

Nick handed her a nail gun and pointed toward a stack of shingles. “Why don’t you get those locked down while I work on the other section.”

Charlie scrambled around the roof, hauling shingles to where she needed them and nailing them in place. It was hot and tiring work, but it was something she’d been doing forever. She’d almost finished her section when Nick called a break. “Think we need to sit in the shade and suck down some water. Working in the sun like this can really dehydrate a body.”

“I’m ready for a big drink,” Charlie responded, pulling up her tank-top to wipe her face.

They climbed down the ladder, grabbed some water bottles from a cooler and went to sit in the shade. “Got to admit I wasn’t too sure about having you up on the roof even though Hoss said you were experienced. There’s a few other women who work for the company, but they mainly do finish work. You’re quite impressive mam.”

“Please call me Charlie. Everyone in my company calls me that and my favorite days are the ones I go out and join one of the crews to do whatever needs doing. I sincerely hate the office work, but someone’s got to do it and, unfortunately, that’s what my daddy gave me once I’d grown up.”

When they’d finished their water and cooled down a bit, Hoss came by and invited Charlie to join him in the construction trailer. Nick returned to the roof with one of the other workers in Charlie’s place. In the trailer, Hoss had Charlie looking at the building plans and asked her questions about various aspects of them. Charlie knew he was testing her knowledge just as Nick had tested her ability to nail down roofing. This was also something the other boss man hadn’t done.

At lunchtime, Charlie retrieved her lunchbox which she’d brought from home with her and which Adam had packed and joined the men in a shady part of the house that caught a small cooling breeze. She sat on the floor with them and listened as they talked and joked and participated when included in the conversation.

Following lunch, Charlie was sent with one of the obviously Mexican workers, Louis, to help install tile in one of the bathrooms. As they worked, Charlie asked him questions and found out that everyone on the crew that had immigrated from Mexico either had a Green Card or had become a US citizen. She came to understand the company supported and assisted the Mexican workers’ efforts to become US citizens. She also learned they were all paid union wages.

At the end of the day, sweaty and smelly, Charlie met with Hoss while the other employees were leaving. She had enjoyed her time with this crew.

“So, Hoss, I have one final question, well, two really. First, do you think you could work with me? Second, will you be able to take my orders and ideas and make them my reality without making any changes?”

“Well, Mam, I watched you today even when you weren’t aware I was watching and I have to say I’m impressed by your knowledge and know-how. Most of the men gave me a thumb’s up as they were leaving, so you impressed them too. I’d say we could all work for you or with you to make whatever you want to build come to fruition exactly, and I mean exactly, the way you want it.”

“Hoss, you’re, or rather your company is hired. Just as soon as I know more specifics, I’ll share them with you and on my next trip out, I’ll bring you in to meet with the owner and the architect. I really look forward to our partnership.”

“Me too, Mam, me too.”

UNDER CONSTRUCTION, CHAPTER 22

The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas flew by. Adam stayed south and spent Christmas with Charlie and her parents. Adam had proposed he give her an engagement ring for Christmas, but Charlie had told him she wasn’t ready. Instead, he gave her a beautiful emerald pendant he’d had crafted from a brooch that had belonged to his mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Patricia had gifted each of her children with a piece of handed-down jewelry when they’d become engaged and while they weren’t engaged at Christmas, both Adam and Patricia believed it was only a matter of time.

Adam had gotten the pin from his mother at Thanksgiving. He took it to a local, but well-respected jeweler and had the emerald removed and using the gold from the original setting, had it reset into a pendant. Charlie hadn’t taken it off since Adam had clasped it around her neck Christmas Eve. The chain was long enough that it almost hung between her breasts and if it didn’t go with what she was wearing, she still wore it, but beneath her clothes.

Early morning the day after Christmas Adam left for the north. She was barely awake when he sat down on the edge of the bed to say goodbye. He had taken the pendent from where it nestled between her bare breasts and told her he was delighted he got the brooch because the emerald color matched her eyes when she was in the throes of their passion. He’d laughingly added that he couldn’t look at the necklace laying on her chest without getting a hard-on. Her sleepy response had been that she’d just have to make sure it was concealed when they went out in public.

When Charlie got up later that morning, she found her little house silent and somehow very lonely. It surprised her because she’d actually looked forward to staying by herself and having some time alone. Instead, found she hated going home to the emptiness at the end of a day, having to figure out her own dinner plans and simply going to sleep and waking up all alone.

She was even more shocked to realize it wasn’t just the sex she missed, but the talk and laughter and time they spent together even when they were immersed in their own activities. Charlie liked being able to look up from the plans she was reviewing and see Adam across the room, his attention devoted to a book or looking up information on his tablet.

Charlie finally had to admit to herself that she not only liked Adam but that she loved him. She also had to admit she definitely could picture them having a life together, becoming parents and growing old together as his and her parents had. It was a bit of a revelation and one which she found herself more than happy to have.

Her fingers found her beautiful emerald and played with it, warm from her skin and reassuring to her mind. Now she was a bit sorry she’d told Adam she didn’t want an engagement ring as a Christmas present. They were definitely going to have to have a talk about their future and it was going to be up to Charlie to begin the conversation since she’d been so adamant when Adam had brought engagement and marriage up. She didn’t want to eat crow or admit she’d been wrong, so she’d have to think of some way in which to broach the subject.

Adam was due back the morning of the last day of the year. They’d celebrate New Year’s Eve together; and perhaps, if she planned accordingly, they could begin the new year as an engaged couple. She had a few days to think and prepare.

The night before Adam was scheduled to come home, Charlie called him. She knew he had plans with his family that night, so she’d be able to leave a message.

“Hi Adam. Happy almost New Year! I‘m sorry I couldn’t wait and talk to you voice to voice, but I have to make a flying trip to Texas. I’m at the airport right now, but I’ll see Jessie first thing in the morning and be back in time to celebrate the new year with you. Tell your family hi for me. Got to run. Love you.”

Charlie laughed as she pushed the end button. She wasn’t going to Texas, but she didn’t want Adam showing up at her place until she was ready for him. She had a plan and all she needed was time for its execution. The next day when Charlie knew Adam was on the plane and couldn’t receive her call, she left another voice mail.

“Hey Adam. It’s me. Got your message, but no time to call back. I’m getting on the plane right now and should be at home in my house by 7:00 pm. Why don’t you wander on over my way about then? Can’t wait to see you.”

Adam had been a bit annoyed by the voice mails, even more so when he called Charlie’s cell and left messages which she hadn’t bothered to return. Surely, she could have found two minutes to touch base. And what would happen if his plane or her plane were late. He’d made a rather spontaneous and expensive purchase while at home and he didn’t plan on taking no for an answer. The coming year was going to be filled with wonderful experiences, the best of which would be their wedding, even though Charlie might not yet know it. Adam patted his pocket as he headed toward his cabin.

By the time Adam was due to arrive at Charlie’s house, she was ready. She’d purchased a dinner that would keep well just in case they didn’t get around to eating right away. There were also a couple bottles of champagne cooling in the fridge. She’d lit candles in every room in the house, put fresh and nicely scented sheets on her bed. Besides that, there were all the little packages she’d wrapped and bowed and spread around her house. Adam was going to have to look and work for his reward.

Charlie had thought about greeting him in a kinky and seductive outfit, but opted for jeans and a sweatshirt, slippers and socks, and her hair in a pony tail. True, once he’d managed to remove all of that, he’d find the emerald-colored lacy silk panties and bra that were hidden beneath. But, first, he was going to have to play her game.

Adam showed up right on time. He brought a huge bouquet of red roses, a bottle of bubbly and a plate of hor d’oeuvres he’d whipped up that afternoon. He was a bit disappointed to find Charlie so dressed down as well as seemingly so tired.

“Oh Adam, the roses are beautiful. How about you get the cork out of the bottle and I’ll grab some glasses. We can drink and nibble while you play a game with me.”

“Play a game? What kind of game? Strip poker?” Adam responded, wiggling his eyebrows.

“No, this is a very serious game. I’ve put something in each room of my house and you have to find it. I’ll watch and tell you hot or cold depending on how close you get to it.”

“That sounds like a silly child’s game. I’m not too sure I want to play.”

“Oh, c’mon Adam. It will be fun. You might find something you really really want if you play along.”

“All I want right now is to yank your clothes off and have my way with you.”

“That’s one reward that’s definitely coming your way. Now, fill my glass and begin. The sooner you finish, the sooner I can take care of this.” Charlie reached out and caressed the bulge in Adam’s pants.

For the next hour or more, Adam moved around the various rooms in Charlie’s house. She hadn’t hidden the boxes in an order that would make her message easily figured out.

When Adam found the first little box in the living room, the piece of paper inside showed only the word “me.” “What the hell is this?” He demanded, waving the curly piece of paper around.

“It’s a word. Now, you need to find the other boxes.”

Finally, there was only one other box to find. This one contained the final word as well as a gift. Charlie had hidden it well, and it wasn’t until Adam moved his pillow on her bed that he found that box. At that point, he’d found the words, “me, will and you.” The final box contained the most important word, “marry” and with it a heavy gold ring that Charlie had chosen as Adam’s wedding ring.

When Adam opened that last box, he assembled the words, and holding the ring, looked up at Charlie in surprise. “You’re asking me to marry you?”

“Yes, indeed I am.” Charlie responded, kneeling between Adam’s legs where he was sitting on the side of the bed. “Since you’ve always been the asker and I’ve been the askee, I thought it was time I traded places. So, don’t keep a girl in suspense. Will you marry me?”

Adam started laughing and leaned back so he could push his hand into his pants pocket. “We really were meant for each other Charlie.” He continued to chuckle as he held out a small box. “Go on, open it.”

Charlie took the box and lifted the lid. Inside was a gorgeous emerald ring. The stone wasn’t large, but it sparkled as did the diamonds that encircled the stone. Adam took it from her and slipped it over her finger. It fit perfectly and looked completely natural adorning her engagement finger.

Adam pulled her up and on to his lap. “I guess neither of us wanted to begin a new year without some kind of a commitment. You have no idea how happy it makes me to know you’re finally willing to become my wife. I was beginning to think I’d have to do something drastic to get you to say I do.”

Charlie snuggled up to Adam’s chest and put her arms around him. “That may be true, but you have to admit I’m definitely waiting for, don’t you?”

Adam used his finger on Charlie’s chin to tip her face up to his. They shared a long and tender kiss. Adam’s hand went to Charlie’s waistband which had her jumping up and telling him he had to wait.

“I have one more present for you Adam. For this one, you don’t have to search or do anything but lay there on the bed. You get comfortable while I go get our glasses and that lovely platter of treats. Be right back.”

When Charlie returned to the bedroom, she’d also turned on some sultry music. Adam was sprawled on the bed, clad only in his own skin.

“Wow, I do like a man who knows how to get comfortable.” Charlie said with a laugh. “Now, I’m going to make you very uncomfortable…at least for a bit.”

Charlie placed the glasses and tray on the table adjacent the bed. Then, she went to the foot of the bed and began to move in time to the music. She did a very slow and teasing striptease. She pulled her hair from its band so it drifted down her neck and on to her shoulders. She raised up one side of the sweatshirt and then the other, allowing them to fall back down. Standing on one foot, she removed her first one sock and then the other. Then it was back to the sweatshirt, lifting up to provide a glimpse of lacy darkness and then back down. Eventually, she turned her back and pulled the shirt over her head. It was the same show with her jeans, down, then up and back down again. Finally, she stood poised at the bottom of the bed clad only in emeralds and matching underwear. “So, you want me to continue, or do you want the honor?”

“The way I’m feeling right now, I’d like to simply rip those pieces of silk right off your body and plunder.”

“Rip away Adam, rip away. Plunder me, take me, do as you will.” Charlie said as she climbed up the bed on hands and knees.

Adam rose up and pulled Charlie down to the bed. His hand went beneath her lacy bra to pinch her nipple and then turned to clasp the silk and give it a hearty yank. He threw the remains off the bed and lowered his head to suck greedily at first one nipple and then the other. Charlie writhed beneath him, turned on by Adam’s eagerness and his unexpected, though wanted, violence. Her arousal increased a hundred-fold as his hand found her panties and gathered them at the crotch before yanking them off as well.

Except for the one kiss they’d shared as she sat on his lap on the bed, they’d not kissed at all. Now Charlie was totally naked and ready for him, he left her breasts to rise up and begin kissing her mouth, fucking her mouth with his tongue. As he did this, his hands returned to her breasts, massaging and pinching and rolling the nipples between his fingers.

Charlie tried to raise up, to give back some pleasure to Adam, but he pushed her back, saying, “No, lay there, I’m enjoying myself.”

Charlie moaned but did as asked and gave herself up to Adam’s ministrations. He finally left her mouth, moved again to her breasts and then kissed and blew on the wet kisses as he went down her body. By the time he reached her mound, Charlie was so wet and so ready, as soon as the tip of his tongue touched her clit, she began to climax. Adam pushed his tongue against her quivering clit, then sucked until his mouth and chin were buried between her lips. When she stopped trembling so hard, Adam put his hand on her mons and gently massaged. That caused aftershocks which brought Charlie right back to the point she’d attained before Adam’s tongue touched her.

As if he’d been waiting for just that, Adam moved up and spread her legs wide. He pulled each leg over one of his shoulders and then, plunged himself into her hot and exceedingly wet core. He had barely stroked a few times before he could feel Charlie’s next orgasm on its way.

“Look at me, Charlie. Look at me as you come.” Adam demanded.

Charlie opened glazed eyes and stared up at him. As he felt her vaginal vibrations intensify, he stared into her emerald gaze and came in her and with her. When they finished, they were still staring at each other and simultaneously said, “I love you.”

They dozed for a bit, wrapped around each other and when they finally got out of bed it was to find the glasses of champagne flat. “That’s okay,” Charlie told Adam with a smile. “I have two more bottles ready to go. I also made sure we’d have something to eat for dinner, so while you open another bottle, I’ll put the food in the oven. It should be perfect by the time we’ve had a couple glasses and eaten those yummy treats you brought.”

“So, Charlie, you gave me a ring. Should I put it on and wear it now, or did you intend it as my wedding ring?”

“That’s up to you Adam. You can wear it now if you like and I or we can find another that could compliment this one.”

Adam slipped it on his ring finger. “I think I’ll wear it now. I’m not sure you or we could find anything more perfect than this one. Thank you, Charlie, it means the world to me.”

“You’re welcome Adam. My pleasure in more ways than one. Now, c’mon, put on your panties and let’s see about food and drink. I’m not only so thirsty I could drink half the lake out there, but I’m famished too.”

“That makes two of us. We need to fuel up now if we’re going to make it to the magic hour of midnight. You know Charlie, I don’t think I’ve ever looked as forward to beginning a new year the way I’m looking forward to this one. It’s going to be the best yet.”

Charlie gave Adam a little kiss and taking his hand led the way to the kitchen. After he’d opened another bottle and filled their glasses, Charlie raised hers and clinking it to his said, “Here’s to the best year of our lives so far. May we have many many more.”
